STEM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. In January 2016, through my connections and reputation in Uganda, I was requested to take my female students for the first ever STEM girls camp held at Namagunga Girls S.S. I sent two girls who are very passionate about tech: Ms. Akello Ruth and Ms. Akello Aisha.
After this camp, Ms Akello Ruth joined Technovation Challenge 2016, not as a students but as a Mentor of the Tech Talent Girls – one of the teams at Lira Town College
The STEM acronym is derived from the traditional STEM fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This year’s curriculum is geared to empower girls with the knowledge of computer programming, Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Health Life Choices skills.
